Sewing runs in my family.

My grandmother and my aunt were both bridal seamstresses. Growing up, I watched them work with a focus and care that I did not fully understand at the time, but absorbed all the same. The patience required to fit a garment properly. The discipline of finishing a seam correctly even when nobody else would notice. The quiet satisfaction of handing something back to someone and watching them see themselves differently in it.

Silk & Structure is how that lineage lives on in me.

I am Harriet, a seamstress and maker based in Royston, Hertfordshire. I offer clothing alterations and repairs, custom dressmaking, and hand embroidery to clients across Royston, Baldock, Letchworth, Buntingford and the wider Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire area. Whether you need a hem taken up, a zip replaced, a waistband resized, or something made entirely to your measurements, every job is handled with the same care and an honest eye for quality.

I care deeply about fit. A beautifully made garment that does not fit properly is a garment that does not get worn. My background is in understanding how clothes are constructed, which means I know not just how to alter something, but why it needs altering and how to make it work for your body specifically.
